You’ve spent countless hours perfecting your skills and honing your expertise as an Esthetician, Makeup Artist, Hairstylist, Lash Artist, Fitness Coach etc… You’ve got the talent, the creativity, and the passion to create magic, but now you’re faced with a new challenge: how to build your clientele.
No worries! As a female entrepreneur in a crowded industry, learning some business skills will take you to the next level. That you are taking the time to invest in your business RIGHT NOW is pushing you ahead of your competitors. In this exciting journey from being a skilled professional to a sought-after expert, we’ll delve into five dynamic strategies to help you attract, engage, and retain clients. We’ll focus on two powerhouse tools: a captivating website design and the art of email marketing. Let’s dive in!
Your website is the digital face of your brand. It’s where potential clients get their first impression of your services and your personality. A clean, user-friendly, and visually appealing website is key to leaving a lasting impact. Show off your work through high-quality images, share client testimonials, and let your personality shine through engaging content. Ensure your site is mobile-responsive to reach clients on all devices. Remember, your website is your 24/7 virtual storefront and it is key in how to build your clientele!
A website also helps clients find you organically. When they search for “balayage near me” you want your business to appear on the first page of the search listings. For more info about SEO read this post.
Email marketing isn’t just about sending random messages; it’s an art that can help you build lasting relationships. Start by creating a mailing list of potential clients and existing customers. Offer something valuable, like a free skincare guide or a makeup tips eBook, in exchange for their email addresses. Send regular, informative, and personalized emails showcasing your expertise, special promotions, and success stories. Make your emails a delightful mix of education, entertainment, and offers that can’t be refused.
When you are relying on only social media to promote your business, you are at the mercy or the algorithm, which you have zero control over. But to build your clientele, having their full attention in a quick and personal email is an over-looked marketing strategy that your competition is probably not aware of.
I use Flodesk for my email marketing because it is user friendly, has only 1 price regardless of how large your email list grows to become and they are BEAUTIFUL!
People love before-and-after stories, but do be careful to not make your clients (that are paying good money for your services) uncomfortable by filming them and plastering them all over your social media! They should be signing a waiver that says they give permission. I’ll be honest, if I was getting a first time service and my esthetician wanted to film my facial, unless I knew her personally I would probably never go back. A client wants to feel like your focus is on them, not your Likes & Follows.
What I do periodically, is ask for models in mommy groups or on the popular neighborhood app. I offer a discount to be able to film or photograph their session. Giving your paying clients your undivided attention will build your credibility and trust and help build your clientele quickly with loyal clients.
But of course we all have those clients that live for the camera ~ so hype them up on your socials! And make sure you have a cute well-lit background for your post-pics that is part of your brand.
Social media is a goldmine for client acquisition. You don’t have to dance on every social media platform! Pick one or two, and post the same content on each. For example, I have my Instagram set up to automatically post to Facebook with the click of one send button.
Film B-roll footage throughout your day and clip it together with music, voice-over or text on top. It takes two seconds to take pics of yourself with your morning java, walking your dog, setting up your room for your clients. People LOVE behind-the-scenes peeks, quick tips and tutorials.
Make sure to take the time to research hashtags to strategically reach your ideal clients! I keep my list of hashtags in my notes app to copy and paste into my posts and reels.
Be sure to engage with your audience by responding to comments and messages promptly. A quick thank you is all that’s needed at the bare minimum.
What better way to get new clients than from your raving fans?! Be honest with your clients and tell them your are still building a clientele and would love it if they would send friends and family your way. I always offered $10 off of their next service when their referrel came in.
Everyone loves a good deal. Create enticing special offers, first-time client discounts, or referral bonuses to attract new clients. Implement a loyalty program that rewards returning clients for their continued patronage. Promotions not only encourage new clients to give you a try but also keep existing clients coming back for more.
PRO TIP * I had clients tell me that if they referred people to me, that I would be too busy for them. I resolved that by telling them that if we rebooked them for the same time every month, that space and time would always be theirs.
